In this scene of John 1:43-51, Philip told Nathanael about
Jesus of Nazareth. Latter questioned if anything good comes from Nazareth.
Philip responded, “Come and see.” Jesus described Nathanael perfectly. When
questioned how he knew, Jesus stated that he saw Nathanael under the tree
before Philip talked with him. This drove Nathanael to believe in Jesus.
Jesus could have confronted Nathanael with the words the
latter had spoken. But he didn’t. It was as if Jesus was saying to him, “I knew
what you said. I knew what you thought. I knew how you felt. But all of that
does not matter. Because you do.”
We love because he first loved us. I John 4:19
